ABSTRACT

The concept of 21st century learning aims to prepare people to live and work in a more advanced environment. Hence, the objective of this paper is to explore the extent of publications on the topic of 21st century learning and COVID-19 in the Scopus database. Keywords used for analysis were TITLE-ABS-KEY-((‘21stcentury*') AND (education* OR learning*) AND (covid*)) with the analysis based on (i) document and source types, (ii) citation trend, (iii) topic of discussion, and (iv) regional distribution. Four steps of research protocol were adopted: (i) topic, scope and eligibility, (ii) identification, (iii) screening. A total of 105 documents were then used for further analysis. ‘Article' and ‘Journal' under the ‘Document' and ‘Resources' Type registered the most citations and were assumed to be of most interest, while the Citation Trend showed an increasing number of citations of these publications. E-learning was the most frequently discussed topic, and the United States was the region most actively conducting research in this area. The high number of annual citations suggests that this area is a promising one for research. Although the most frequently referenced publications were about students' development of 21st century skills, there is still a gap in the field for educators. Further research would speed up the development of the educators' skills and promote the use of 21st century skills. © Authors.

ABSTRACT

Background: Healthcare workers (HCWs) are most at risk of contracting SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 infection. Their preparedness, as a result of provision and access to personal protective equipment (PPE), training programmes and awareness and practices on infection prevention and control measures, is integral for the prevention of infectious disease transmission. Objective(s): This study was conducted to assess the preparedness and practices of HCWs during COVID-19 first wave outbreak in Brunei Darussalam. Method(s): A cross-sectional study using a pre-designed and self-administered web-based questionnaire was conducted among HCWs from government and private health sectors ranging from primary to tertiary health facilities in Brunei Darussalam. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, and chi-square test was used for statistical significance. Result(s): A total of 511 HCWs participated in the study. Nurses (64%) and HCWs based at hospitals (66%) made up the majority of the study participants, with 74% having occupational exposure to COVID-19 cases. More than 99% of HCWs used respiratory PPE, and 94% used gloves. 74% had undergone respirator fit testing and 65% had received PPE awareness session within the last one year. Coverage in training programmes was found to be low among HCWs from private health facilities. Conclusion(s): Majority of HCWs who had received updated training programmes and therefore were better prepared came from government health facilities. HCWs from private health facilities lacked preparedness training programmes and as such, there needs to be improvement to enhance preparedness measures in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and for future infectious disease outbreaks. ABSTRACT

The double disruption of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the impact of Covid-19 pandemic have caused major changes to the dynamics of the world. These have accelerated some of the key components of the global megatrend that was highlighted by Bloomberg, Deloitte, McKinsey, MWC, WEF and World Bank. The five key trends of the shifting of economic powers, climate change and resource shortage, technological advancement, societal change;and accelerated urbanization are definitely impacting both people and planet as a whole. Organizations nowadays are being pressured by stakeholders to “do good” by reducing its negative impacts to the society and planet. As a non-listed developer for a global technology hub, the organization is also faced with adversity of the changing environment that could jeopardize its business. Currently there is limited research on how ESG concepts can add value to non-listed companies in Malaysia especially for developers of technology hubs. Therefore, this study aims to construct a framework that integrates ESG concepts into the strategic planning of the organization to enhance its competitive advantage. © 2022, Success Culture Press. ABSTRACT

This study analyses return volatility for Malaysia and China's stock markets during the SARS and COVID-19 pandemics. Stock return volatility is estimated using GARCH family models (GARCH (1,1), TGARCH and EGARCH). Generally, GARCH (1,1) estimates symmetric conditions, whereas TGARCH and EGARCH estimate the asymmetric condition or leverage effect of return volatility. Stock return volatility in China and Malaysia are then compared to assess the severity of pandemic cases during the study period. Post pandemic, Malaysia is seen to experience higher decrements in leverage effect when using the TGARCH model. Conversely, the effect is higher for China when using the EGARCH model for the SARS pandemic. To aid in predicting future return volatility after the COVID-19 pandemic, return volatility after the SARS pandemic is forecast, with the forecast value serving as the basis for evaluating the error using the mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE) and Theil inequality coefficient (TIC) approaches. The forecast error performance is ranked to identify outperforming GARCH family models for the pandemic period: the TGARCH model for China's stock market but the GARCH model for Malaysia's stock market. © 2022 Author(s).

ABSTRACT

Gamification refers to transforming the environment to become more game-like to produce a positive experience. In this study, the researchers developed a gamification model, namely the GAMEBC model, to drive behavior change through a health awareness campaign in defeating the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The GAMEBC model was developed based on the self-determination theory (SDT) and gamification design literature. The GAMEBC model in this study involves four elements: competence, relatedness, autonomy, and engagement. Each element includes criteria that drive behavior change in health awareness campaigns. However, studies that validated the gamification model elements are limited, specifically to drive behavior change. Therefore, the content validity of the GAMEBC model instrument was carried out, and the analysis was based on thirteen expert reviews. The mean value and inter-rater agreement approach were implemented to examine the content validity ratio (CVR), item content validity index (I-CVI), and scale content validity index (S-CVI). The expert evaluation approach was implemented to review the GAMEBC model in terms of relevance and clarity. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. As a result of this work, we formulated an instrument that can be used to model and measure behavior change through the gamification approach in health awareness campaigns. © 2022 Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science. ABSTRACT

Purpose: This study aims to examine the role of organisational commitment (affective, normative, continuance) in influencing employees’ knowledge application behaviour during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study also probes the moderating role of leader–member exchange (LMX) in the association between organisational commitment and knowledge application. Design/methodology/approach: This study used a sample of 206 employees working in various private sector organisations in Brunei Darussalam. Structural equation modelling using Smart-PLS was used to test the hypothesised relationships. Findings: The findings show that affective and normative organisational commitment spurred employees’ knowledge application behaviour significantly during the COVID-19 crisis. However, the moderating effect of LMX could not be established in this study. Practical implications: The findings provide managers with insights into the crucial role organisational commitment can play in encouraging knowledge application in an organisation. Originality/value: Studies exploring the enabling factors of knowledge application are scarce, especially in the context of a global crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This study develops a model and empirically validates the importance of organisational commitment for knowledge application amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This study also provides insights for managers into how LMX can affect knowledge application outcomes, particularly during uncertain times. © 2022, Emerald Publishing Limited.

ABSTRACT

Background: National Blood Centre is an institution under the Ministry of Health Malaysia responsible for ensuring adequate and safe blood supply is always available for hospitals in Malaysia. Prior to COVID-19 pandemic, collection from the blood donation campaign was 80% of the total collection. However, during the pandemic collection from blood donation campaigns has reduced to almost only 60%. Identifying the issues is important because tackling these issues reduce barriers that impede people from becoming blood donors and increase the likelihood of blood donation campaigns organizers to continue supporting blood donation campaigns which are important for the sustainability of donations from regular blood donors. Aims: The purpose of this study is to better understand the issues faced at blood donation campaigns specifically related to location, equipment, and staff-related issues in view of paving the way to solving the issues later for the betterment of the service in terms of future intervention. Methods: This was a cross-sectional prospective study using a feedback form filled out by Blood Donation Campaign managers to give their input on the issues encountered during blood donation campaigns. The duration of this study was 4 months from 1st of September 2021 to 31st of December 2021 involving 711 blood donation campaigns organized by the National Blood Centre with blood donation campaign organizers using the purposive sampling method. These feedbacks were mainly categorized into three main categories involving location, equipment, and staff-related issues. The feedback form is given to Blood Donation Campaign managers on the day of the blood donation campaigns, with the feedback to be filled during campaign progress and to be returned at the end of the blood donation campaign on the same day. The outcome of this feedback is calculated by pointer system-where 0 = no issues, 1 = issue exist. Results: A total of 240 issues were highlighted involving 123 of the 711 blood donation campaigns between the 1 September 2021 to the 31 December 2021. 81.25% of the issues were due to blood donation campaign location and environment, 13.75% of the issues were due to staff issues and 5.0% of the issues were due to equipment issues. 24.62% of the issues were related to the lack of the locations' visibility and accessibility to potential blood donors. 22.05% of the issues related to the blood donation campaign locations were due to unsuitable environment temperature, which is vital for preserving the blood cold chain. 13.33% of the issues were due to staff issues such as failure to be prepared for departure on time. Unexpectedly high number of donors turn up contributed to 4.49% of issues related to inadequate equipment (blood bag and rations). Summary/Conclusions: This cross-sectional prospective study analysis has helped in identifying issues encountered at blood donation campaigns and pave the way for further intervention for the betterment of services needed. Choosing a proper location and adequate promotional materials may be useful in addressing visibility issues in recruiting potential donors. Unsuitable environment temperature can be overcome by bringing additional fans or air humidifiers to bring down the temperature around the campaign location. A possible solution to inadequate blood bags and ration is by bringing additional blood bags to blood donation campaigns that are going to be held in high population areas.

ABSTRACT

Background: Diversity of reception of knowledge from social media has made it one of the crucial bases for knowledge update especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Worldwide blood donation collections were greatly impacted due to disease transmission and movement restrictions imposed in order to curb the outbreak. In Malaysia, including National Blood Centre (NBC), a steady increment of blood collection had been documented before the pandemic. However, the increasing number of COVID-19 infections has led to significant reduction of blood collection. In order to have a sustainable number of blood supply for patients in need, diverse strategies have been applied to promote blood donation activities. NBC Facebook (FB) was created on 17 December 2012 and it has been the major medium for providing blood donation awareness, education and communication to the society. Aims: To determine the impacts of FB posts on blood collection in NBC during COVID-19 pandemic from 2019 till 2021. Methods: Retrospective data from the Blood Bank Information System (BBIS) and FB posts from 2019 until 2021 were analysed. FB posts were categorized into blood donation campaign information, educational videos, latest blood stock status, donor appreciation, educational infographic and sharing promotional posts either from other state blood banks or international institutions. The outcome of the total followers and total blood collections were captured. Results: The increased number of reach as well as engagement from the FB users towards the FB posts had resulted in sustainable blood collection during COVID-19. FB posts have contributed significantly in promoting blood donation to society, recruiting more new donors in order to ensure sustainable blood collection during COVID-19 pandemic. Table 1 showed that there was a significant increase of FB posts consisting of different categories. In 2019, there were 1565 FB posts, followed by 1622 in 2020 and further increment to 1929 in 2021. Type of post that had the highest reach from followers was the blood stock update, which showed information about the latest red blood cells stock in NBC. An increment of FB followers has been recorded in 2020 (n = 34,040) from 2019 (n = 16,883). In 2020, postings shared by the Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia have remarkably contributed to an increase (n = 34,040) on number of followers compared to 2021 (n = 21,825). In 2021, MOH focused on promoting COVID-19 vaccination to society and more sectors were opened and people started working as usual. Total blood collection in 2019 was 199,721 units, and total blood collection during Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 were 171,106 and 174,872 units respectively. Despite reduction in blood collection, blood supply to patients is manageable via good clinical justification for blood usage together with patient blood management awareness and strategies. Summary/Conclusions: Social media has contributed as one of the mechanisms in disseminating information to society in ensuring good sustainable demand for blood requisition for patients especially during COVID-19 pandemic. ABSTRACT

This paper aims to provide a solution to ease people in the retail industry to comply with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) by implementing Smart Counter in their premises. This system comprises two (2) Infrared (IR) sensors that are connected to Arduino UNO for entrance detection. It will capture the total number of customers or shoppers in and out of the premises. A Digital non-contact Infrared temperature sensor (MLX90614) and APDS-9960 digital RGB, ambient light, gesture, and proximity sensor are also connected to Arduino UNO to capture the temperature of passes customers and at the same time trigger the alarm if they failed to do the temperature screening. These temperature data then are transferred to the ESP8266 server through serial communication and conveyed them to the client at the entrance counter for the owner to monitor the temperature data of each customer entering the premises. If the temperature exceeds 37.5 °C, the alarm will be triggered and preventing the customer from entering the premises. This system has demonstrated that it indeed can help ease the process of complying with the SOP. © 2021 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Gamification is progressively used as an essential part of today's campaigns to engage users and drive behaviour change. The gamified campaign would motivate people to be aware of health issues. However, there is a lack of empirical evidence on the needs of Gen Z on a gamified health awareness campaign, such as in defeating the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, this study intends to explore the Gen Z perception of gamified health awareness campaigns. In total, 170 Gen Z was involved in this study. The present study applied standard descriptive statistical methods for analyzing the data. The findings showed the need for a gamification approach for a health awareness campaign to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic among Gen Z. The study results will highlight the need for emerging a demanding gamified health awareness guideline as a parameter to develop an application that drives to change behaviours. © 2021 Elsevier B.V..
